ICKD
meeting in Turin
February 2009
Sara Howe and Anna Grayston recently visited Turin as representatives of
the BHDTA, to be part of a meeting of delegates involved in the Junior World
Trophy.
The meeting, taken by Frenchman Patrick Dubrulle, President of the ICKD
(International Collective for Kids Driving), was host to delegates from all
over Europe, whose junior drivers had taken part in the Junior World Trophy
in Austria in July 2008.
It was announced that the 2010 Junior World Trophy will be hosted by
Hungary with the aim being 20 participating nations, including a number from
outside Europe. Most of the discussions were around Class structure and JWT
Rules, having learnt and progressed from the competition in Austria.
The new inclusion at JWT will be a class for single horse drivers aged 16
to 18 years, alongside the pony pair class for drivers aged 14 to 18 years
and the various single pony classes. The competition structure will remain
the same with all phases being arena based. The dressage test will be
followed by a “world cup style” marathon derby and then the cones phase to
complete the competition. The competition will still only require one
carriage for all three phases (pneumatic tyres being allowed in the single
classes) with a suggested track width of 125cm.
With 6 proposed international kids driving competitions taking place this
year throughout Europe, there is an exciting year ahead for junior drivers.

Ashfields Carriage Centre are hosting the Channel Cup on August 1/2 to
give our juniors a taste of international competition, running to the new
ICKD Rules. Keep watching the BHDTA Junior News for information.
