Qualification criteria
Drivers and all ponies must successfully complete all three competitions at a combined National or FEI International Driving Event in their own class and, in doing so, achieve a result of 65 penalty points or less in the Dressage Competition - Test 10 for the Pairs and Four-in-Hand, and Test 9 for the Singles as outlined in art 901 of the FEI Rules for Driving. This criteria to be achieved in current year of the Championship, up to the date for nominated entries, or during 2008.

Qualifying events in 2009: Hopetoun, Sandringham, Farleigh and Royal Windsor. As it is undesirable to be trying to qualify at selection events, particularly for multiples, competitors are advised to try and qualify before their selection process begins.

UK COMPETITOR SELECTION PROCEDURE

1. Prior to their first selection event, competitors must state their interest in writing and sign the declaration agreement.

2. There will be four or five selection events, the best three results to be counted. To be considered for team selection a competitor must complete three events.

3. Points to be awarded as final event placing ie. 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points etc.

   (a) Points will be awarded to declared selection candidates only: i.e. If the 1st placed competitor at a selection event is not a declared candidate, one point will be awarded for 2nd place, etc.

   (b) The competitor(s) having the lowest points after all the selection events have been completed shall be selected, subject to approval by the ratification panel.

   (c) Should there be an equality of points scored, the marathon scores at mutually contested events will resolve placings.

4. There is no restriction on the number of horses that may be used during selection but in Single Classes each driver/horse combination will be classified individually.

5. Horses to be qualified as Article 911. BHDTA to make available qualifying events.

6. Council will nominate Selection Events with a view to finalising teams in sufficient time to allow pre-Championship team training and preparation.

Ratification Panel

1. Members to consist of BHDTA Chairman, Competitions Committee representative, Chef d’Equipe and Class Nominee. Substitute members shall be appointed by Council if any member has connection with candidates in contention.

2. The Panel shall seek, should it be deemed advisable, Veterinary advice and/or reports and any other information regarding the competitor.

3. The Panel shall be empowered to de-select any competitor if necessary,

4. All decisions of the Ratification Panel to be approved by the BHDTA Council.
