BHDTA Driving Trials Competitions

Approved Club Events

For clubs with proven ability to run quality events.

Intermediate qualifiers will be allocated to areas of the country without easy access to National or Regional Events.

  • National qualification for Intermediate and National Novice Qualifier classes.
  • 2 competitors to qualify for National Championships.
  • Points league - 6 points for a win.
  • Approved club level TD & Course Designer with a minimum of 1 listed National Judge and 1 Club Level Judge.
  • Minimum of 6 obstacles.
  • Qualifying classes may be part of a club class where numbers do not warrant a separate class.
  • Required level of organisation & paperwork
  • Qualifying classes are unlikely to be approved at venues used by National or Regional Events.
Regional Events
  • Classes may include the full range of National classes, as well as the National Novice Qualifier classes.
  • 2 competitors to qualify for the National Championships.
  • Points League - 6 points for a win.
  • Officials. A minimum of one fully qualified official is required at each event as per the following:
  • POJ. A list 2 Judge is acceptable, provided the TD is fully qualified to National standard.
  • TD. A probationer from the National list is acceptable provided the POJ is fully qualified to National standard.
  • CD. A probationer from the National list is acceptable.
  • Min. 7 obstacles with a large proportion gated to F.
  • Marathon - 3 sections with a min. total of 14 km.
  • Entry level to reflect no. of dressage arenas.
  • Minimum of 2 BHDTA listed dressage judges per arena.
  • Club classes are acceptable.
  • A Start Fee will not be required fof Club Classes.
  • Could be run as a 2-day event.
National Events
  • 2 competitors to qualify for National Championships.
  • Points League - 10 points for a win.
  • Full, approved range of BHDTA officials, with at least one International Judge.
  • 7 or 8 quality obstacles each with a different character or theme and the majority gated to F.
  • Priority for selection events will be given to those events with 8 obstacles.
  • Marathon, 3 or 5 sections of at least 16 km.
  • 2 dressage arenas with 3 judges per arena.
  • Warm up/practice arena for dressage & cones, with selection classes having priority.
  • Club classes are acceptable, but competitors must have a minimum of club category membership of BHDTA.
  • A Start Fee will not be required for Club Classes.
Desirable:
  • Good box park & facilities inc. good water supply.
  • Catering facilities. Saturday evening entertainment.
  • Promoted locally to raise public awareness of HDT.
  • Signed exercise route
International Events Some events, e.g. Royal Windsor or Sandringham (in 2009) are classified as CAI-A or CAI-B and run under FEI rules, which may differ slightly from BHDTA rules. Competitors should make them selves familiar with these differences. The FEI rules are available from our REFERENCE section or from the FEI website. A new FEI rule book came into force from January 2009.
