CLASS CRITERIA,
QUALIFICATION and PROGRESSION | ||||
| PRE-NOVICE CLASSES & CLUB NOVICE SINGLES CLASSES | ||||
| These classes will be held at Club Events and BHDTA recommend that in the interest of creating a uniform structure, clubs should consider adopting the class rules. | ||||
| Inspection & Safety Check | At the halt for fit, safety and cleanliness of harness and vehicle, also turnout of horse, driver and groom. Lamps are not required and marathon harness and 3 phase vehicles are acceptable. Marks will only be deducted, if an acceptable standard is not attained. | |||
| Dressage | BHDTA Pre-Novice test (2008) | |||
| Marathon | 1 or 3 Sections, min. 8 km, max. 12 km, 4 to 6 obstacles, gates max. to E. | |||
| Cones | Max. 15 gates, speed 210 m/min, width 165 cm. | |||

Novice Singles You must progress after 10 events. You may progress after 3 events at the discretion of the club. | |||

| Progression |
To National Novice Qualifying classes or the appropriate class at Club events. You must progress at the end of the season after winning this class on three occasions, either to National Novice qualifying class or the appropriate class at Club Events. You may progress at any time to National Novice after completing without elimination three Club Novice events with a 3 section marathon. Competitors may progress to club classes at the discretion of the club. New competitors wishing to enter National Novice classes must have a BHDTA competence certificates signed at three events with a 3 section marathon, either in the current or the two previous seasons. | |||
| NATIONAL NOVICE SINGLES QUALIFIER | ||||
| These classes will be held at Regional competitions and Approved Club events. | ||||

| Qualification for National Championships |
To qualify, a competitor must achieve a final score not exceeding the class
winner's score plus 40%. If 5 or more in the class, the highest two will qualify, disregarding those already qualified, from the first six places. If 3 or 4 in the class - the highest place, disregarding those already qualified. 1 or 2 in the class - the higher place, disregarding those already qualified, provided the driver's dressage score is 65 or less. | |||
| Progression To Intermediate Singles |
You must progress at the end of the season after winning this class on three occasions or finishing in the top 50% at the National Championships. You may progress at any time after qualifying for the National Championships. You may also progress after completing three National Novice events without elimination, either in the current or the two previous seasons, with a dressage score of 65 or less at one of these events. | |||

| Qualification for National Championships |

| Progression to Open Singles |
You must progress to Open Singles at the end of the season after winning this class on two occasions or finishing in the top 50% at the National Championships. You may progress at any time after qualifying for the National Intermediate Championships. You may also progress after completing three Intermediate events without elimination, either in the current or the two previous seasons, with a dressage score of 65 or less at one of these events. Note: A competitor from the Advanced or Open Single classes with a Novice horse or pony may compete in this class, but will not be eligible for qualification to the Intermediate class at the National Championships and must return to the Open Class after one win. | |||

| Progression |
To Advanced Singles The National Champion in the Open Singles Classes must progress to the Advanced Class for a minimum of the following season. A competitor may progress immediately or at the end of the season after winning this class at a National Event on three occasions with the same Horse or Pony, with a Dressage score of 55 or less at one of these events. Competitors with 6 or more wins at National events over two consecutive seasons must progress to the Advanced Class for a minimum of the following season. Competitors may also progress at the discretion of BHDTA Council after completing 9 National Events and achieving a Dressage score of 55 at three of these events. To Advanced Pairs You may progress if you wish after completing 3 National events without elimination, with a Dressage score of 60 or less at one of these events. Competitors from the Multiple Classes, or Pairs competitors who competed in 2008 or previously, may choose the class in which they wish to compete | |||

A competitor from the Multiple Classes may compete in the Advanced Singles classes at the discretion of the BHDTA Council. A single competitor must only compete in the Advanced Singles with the Horse/Pony used to qualify. Competitors from the Advanced Singles Classes may now voluntarily return to the Open Class after one season. An Advanced Singles competitor who does not compete in this class during two consecutive seasons must return to the Open Class and re-qualify. | |||
