InformationBorn in 1961, Dick Lane is a plant-hire contractor from Cranleigh in Surrey, who started driving in 1997, when he had lessons with international Horse Teams driver, Pippa Thomas. He bought a Welsh cob, Sam, originally from Alwyn Holder’s four-in-hand team and competed in singles at club level.

Dick then progressed to competing with a Pair of Welsh cobs at club and National Horse Driving Trials. In 1999 he drove a pair of Lippizaners, from Pippa Thomas’s four-in-hand Horse Team at the Lowther Horse Driving Trials where he finished 3rd. He then bought Pippa’s team of Lippizaner horses and started learning to drive four-in-hand.

Dick made his international debut in the Open Single Horse class at the 2000 International Driving Grand Prix at Royal Windsor Horse Show and then made his national Horse Teams debut in 2000. After a season off, Dick spent the 2001 winter training four grey Lippizaners ready to bid for selection for the 2002 World Four-in-Hand Championships.

Dick is now Chairman of Brockham Harness Club and an active event organiser as well as a successful Four-in-Hand Horse Team driver.
